Check out some delicious food from around the world with Owlkids intern Taylor in honour of World Food Day!
Today is World Food Day and I want to tell you about some popular foods from around the world!
Vietnam: Phở (say: “fuh”)
Phở is a soup made with broth, noodles and meat. The meat is often added to the soup raw before serving, but the broth is so hot it cooks it just in time to eat!
Spain: Paella (say: pie-YAY-ah)
Paella is a rice dish that can have seafood, sausage, chicken and potatoes in it. The rice gets its signature yellow colour from a spice called saffron.
Ackee is a buttery and nutty flavoured fruit that people boil and sauté and add into savoury dishes. Jamaica’s national dish is ackee and saltfish, which is dried fish.
Hawaii: Poke (say: poke-AY)
Poke is a salad made from raw fish. People add different vegetables, sauces or seasonings to it for flavour. It’s kind of like sushi in a bowl!
Venezuela: Arepas (say: ah-REY-pa)
Arepas are round pieces of bread made from corn. People eat them by topping them with cheese, shredded meats, avocado, or any topping they like!
If you’ve tried these dishes or want to let us know about a food you like, let us know in the comments!
