OWL + Toronto Comic Arts Festival = Fun!

Hey all. Guess what this weekend is. Ding! Ding! Ding! It’s the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, and Owlkids is a sponsor again. The event is going down at the Toronto Reference Library on Saturday and Sunday.

This year, we’re sponsoring a whole day of cool seminars and sketching stuff on Sunday, May 10. Here’s a hyperlinked schedule of events (just click on a name to see an example of that person’s comic stylings!):

11:15am-12:00pm: Storybook Theatre with Hilary Leung, David Bruins and Matt Hammill
12:00pm-1:00pm: Owlkids: Kids Draw! with Clayton Hanmer, Scott Chantler,
Patricia Storms, and Wendy Ding
1:00pm-1:30pm: Eric Wight Presents: Frankie Pickle and the Closet of Doom
1:30pm-2:00pm: Alexis Frederick-Frost Presents: Adventures in Cartooning 2:00pm-2:30pm: John Mejias Presents: Paping: A Puppet Show!
2:30pm-3:30pm: Spotlight: Emmanuel Guibert’s SARDINE
3:30pm-4:30pm: Kids Draw! with Kean Soo, Frank Cammuso, Tom Fowler, and John Martz

On top of all that, we’ll also have a table with awesome OWL artists — such as Brian McLachlan, writer of “Alex and Charlie” — drawing personalized stuff all weekend.

What’s not to like about that?

  3. Craig Says:

  4. sinead Says:

WHY?!?!? why must i live so far from Toronto?!?!? why must it mock me with it’s amazing festivals and special events?!?!?!?!?! *sob*

  5. Katie Says:

Isn’t this what was advertised on the back of the May Issue? I though Eric Kim(Sidesteppers) was going to be there? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

  6. Craig Says:

Hey Katie! Yup, Eric Kim is going to be there — he’s just not giving a seminar. He’ll be drawing at the OWL table at 11:00 sharp on Saturday morning.

  7. Mara Says:

Toronto not the best place for me

  8. Sydney Says:

  10. Joeseph Says:

Q: For the contest, can I submit my entrees by e-mail or do I have to do it by letter? E-mail would save a lot of money and paper.

  11. Sydney Says:

Hey any ideas for Mother’s Day????

  12. Craig Says:

Hi Joeseph. Thanks for the question! The only reason we don’t suggest that kids submit comics and drawings by email is that they need to be scanned at a really high resolution to be able to print in the magazine. (That makes the digital files really big, and tough to send.) Sorry about that! If you want more info on this, email me at owlblog@owlkids.com.

  13. Mara Says:

Craig, that makes me wonder can I write out my poems instead of printing them? I will send them by mail though

  14. Sydney Says:

Hey Craig, can you do an blog entry with stuff we could buy and do for Mother’s Day?

  15. Craig Says:

Hi Mara. Yup, you can write them on lined paper, print them off from the computer, or whatever. Just make sure we can read it!

Hey Sydney. Good idea! I’ll see what I can do…

  16. Katie Says:

What will Eric Kim be drawing? Portraits of characters and fans?

  17. Mara Says:

    Okay thanks Craig

  18. sinead Says:

the worst part is that the comic festival is in SOUTHERN Ontario, and i’m in NORTHERN Ontario!?!?! so close, and yet so far……

  19. Katherine* Says:

I live not in Toronto but close enough that it’ll take 1 hour. But, im probably not going. Oh and Craig, how come you post blog entries on random days now??????

  20. Hailey Says:

Whooooooa…..wait a sec, is craig the only one here who’s actually gonna be able to go? Who loves Roald dahl Books!? IdoIdoIdo!!!

  21. Mara Says:

hey sinead im in northern Ontario 2

  22. kiana Says:

thank you so much for making me a part of the think tank
and.. i think i can go cause i live in Pickering which is just half an hour away

  23. Craig Says:

Hey Kiana! We’re very happy to have you on the Think Tank. Can’t wait to see your comments throughout the year. Sadly, though, the comic arts festival was a little while ago! Sorry you missed out.
