OWL Mailbag #34
Hey! Check it out: the first mailbag of the new year! Lots of great questions from you guys this week, so let’s get right to the answers.
Here we go:
Q: Have you ever been editor of another magazine?
— hannah
CB: Hi Hannah! No, I’ve never edited another magazine. I worked at a website and a few small newspapers before starting at OWL. I didn’t know if I’d ever work in magazines, but when the OWL job came up I jumped at the chance!
Q: Craig, what’s your favourite food?
— Mara
CB: Wow, that is a tough one, Mara. I don’t even know where to begin to narrow it down. Or maybe I do: cheese. Yes, cheese is my favourite food.
And, hey, speaking of cheese, did you guys know there’s an annual event in England in which whole groups of people risk life and limb to chase a roll of cheese down a hill? I’m not even kidding. It’s called Cooper’s Hill Cheese-Rolling and Wake, and takes place every year on the last Monday in May.

Weird, huh? I mean, I like cheese, but I don’t like it that much.
Q: I take French in school! Do you know a lot of French?
— Selena
CB: I don’t know if this question was for me, Selena, but I’ll answer it anyway! I know a bit of French… or should I say, “Je connais un peu!” I took French for several years in elementary and high school, and it definitely helps me at OWL. Sometimes I use it to translate articles from our French sister publications in Quebec and France!
Q: What ever happened to REVERSE MAILBAGS??!!
— Hailey
CB: Oh, they’re still alive and well, Hailey. For those who are new here, reverse mailbags are where I ask you the questions — as opposed to regular mailbags (like this one). We just did one in October and I was thinking of doing another very soon.
Would anyone else be up for a reverse mailbag? If so, does anyone have any question suggestions?
Q: When you were a kid… did you read OWL Magazine?
— Marissa
CB: Excellent question! The answer is a definite yes. I loved reading both OWL and chickaDEE as a kid, and I’m sure I would have loved Chirp as well — but it wasn’t invented until 17 years after I was born. Yikes!

Marissa my best birthday was when my friends and I went to moonwalkers
(its like a giant play ground in side with an arcade and laser tag) but it’s now closed down and replaced by some vacum store I think.
