Looking for something to do tonight? You may want to check out the new 3-D animated movie, Rio!
This movie follows Blu, a lovable Spix’s Macaw who’s living a cozy life with his owner and best pal, Linda, in a small Minnesota town. Things quickly get shaken up when a Brazilian bird expert named Tulio tells Linda that Blu is the last male of his kind. In order to save the species, Tulio wants Blu to meet the only other female Spix’s Macaw in the world, Jewel. There’s only one problem: Jewel lives all the way in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Although Blue and Linda aren’t big on adventure, they decide travelling to Rio is the right thing to do.
After arriving in Rio, Blu and Jewel meet. But their hilarious introduction is cut short when they’re kidnapped by animal poachers! The adventure continues as the lovebirds try to escape the thieves and their crazy cockatoo, Nigel.
Here are a few notes I have after seeing the movie.
1) This movie is all about trying new things. Even though Blu is scared to face his fears about being away from home, he finds the courage to do it! When he does, he meets many new friends and learns that trying new things is great.
2) You will dance in your seat! will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas and Jamie Foxx are just a few of the singers who lend their voices to this movie. The traditional Brazilian music featured in this flick will also make you want to Samba the day away. (Samba is a traditional Brazilian dance!)
3) There are a ton of cute animals! From pudgy baby birds to fuzzy monkeys, the movie is full of adorable critters.
4) You won’t be able to take your eyes off the beautiful scenery. From the busy city streets to colourful jungles, this film is sure to make you feel like you’ve been transported into another world!
5) There are some sad parts in the movie. Blu and Jewel run into danger a few times.
If you do see this movie, I hope you like it as much as I did! And don’t forget to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
It’s Friday, which means its time for a weekend challenge. Try playing Monkey Kick Off and beat my high score. I got 2549 monkey metres. What was your highest score?

This Saturday is Earth Hour. For one hour starting at 8:30 local time, folks around the world are encouraged to turn the lights off to show that little actions can make a BIG difference when it comes to the environment. Last year, 1.3 billion people powered down to show the world they cared about the environment. What will you be doing for Earth Hour? Get some ideas by clicking on this link!
While you’re thinking about the environment this weekend and beyond, think about green questions you want to ask chickaDEE. We’re collecting green questions to answer in a future issue. You may have noticed that chickaDEE’s Mish Mash page has a brand-new look!
Not only has Mish Mash added a page, it also has more jokes, more riddles and even more illustrations. Who’s behind all those fun drawings, you ask? Remie Geoffroi, that’s who! Check out our interview with Remie below!
chickaDEE: How did you know you wanted to be an artist when you grew up?
Remie: From a very young age, all I wanted to do was draw. I spent hours upon hours drawing, and never got tired of it. I would fold a few pieces of paper together, put three staples across the side (at the fold), and then draw my own comic and activity books for my family to read. Sometimes, just for fun, I would paint my arm and hand to look like an elephant, crocodile or giraffe, then wash it off after taking a few pictures. I was always making crafts and art projects.

chickaDEE: How do you make your art?
Remie: I used to sketch everything on paper, scan it in and then create the finished artwork on the computer. Now I skip the pencil and paper, and draw right in the computer program using a pen tablet. I love the “undo’ feature” much faster than an eraser!
chickaDEE: Can you explain more about Mish Mash’s new look?
Remie: We are finally getting a glimpse of where Mish, Mash and Mush live. This is their house, and they’ve covered the walls with drawings, puzzles and activities on scraps of paper. It’s a zany, unpredictable house, just like the funhouse at a carnival, with trap doors and secrets waiting to be revealed!
chickaDEE: Who’s your favourite character? Mush, Mish or Mash?
Remie: I love them all, but I’ve got a soft spot for Mash. He’s not quite as smart as Mish, and not as mischievous as Mush — just a good natured, simple guy! chickaDEE: Can you tell us your favourite joke?
Remie: This is one of my all-time favourite jokes: What’s the sweetest animal in the forest? The chocolate moose!
Good one, Remie! Hey chickaDEE readers, do you have a favourite joke? Tell us in the comment section below!
