Movie Review: Mr. Popper’s Penguins
Hi readers!
This week, our Owlkids intern, Ashley, had the chance to see a preview screening of the new movie Mr. Popper’s Penguins.
Find out what she thought of the movie below!
The movie is about Tom Popper (Jim Carrey), a successful businessman and a not-so-successful dad. His work life is great, but his two kids aren’t too happy with him… until a special delivery of six penguins arrives at his door. The penguins, named Captain, Bitey, Lovey, Loudy, Stinky and Nimrod, turn Mr. Popper’s life (and apartment) into a wacky winter wonderland.
Here are four fun things about the movie:
- It’s funny! Jim Carey is famous for his physical comedy and wacky facial expressions and he doesn’t disappoint in this movie
- It made my ears hurt! The penguins in the movie made really loud sounds. Who knew such small animals could make such BIG noises?
- It looked fun to make. One scene was filmed at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The building looks like it would make a really fun waterslide, for penguins and humans alike. Check out the Guggenheim Museum HERE.
- It looked chilly. Jim Carrey worked with real Gentoo penguins in a refrigerated soundstage. It must have been cold. Brr! Learn more about Gentoo penguins by clicking HERE.
My favourite part of the movie is Mr. Popper’s assistant, Pippi, who talks with plenty of “P” words. Listening to her talk was positively perplexing and perfectly pleasant at the same time!
Mr. Popper’s Penguins opens in theatres today. Do you think you’ll see the movie? Leave a message below and tell us what you think!
Talk to you later,
Ashley
