Chirp Challenge: Go on a Nature Walk!

Hi everyone,

There’s no better time than right now to explore the great outdoors! Why not go on a nature walk?

You can make your walk even more fun by planning a scavenger hunt! Write a list of the things that you think you’ll see on your stroll. Bring it with you, and check off the items that you spot while you’re out.

Happy S’mores Day!

Hi everyone,

Today is s’mores day, and I for one couldn’t be happier that this delicious treat has a day all to itself! To celebrate, I thought I’d share a simple, yet scrumptious recipe! Just remember to ask a parent for help.

You’ll need:
graham crackers
squares of milk chocolate
marshmallows

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

2. Line up graham crackers on a baking sheet.

3. Put 1 square of milk chocolate on each cracker.

4. Top each cracker with a marshmallow.

5. Bake for 4 to 6 minutes, just long enough to melt the chocolate and marshmallow.

6. Remove from the oven and put another graham cracker on top to make a sandwich.

7. Let the s’mores cool for a few minutes, then get munching!

This sweet treat can get rather messy, so be sure to have lots of napkins ready!

The Loveable Lorax

Hi everyone,

Have you ever heard of a Truffula tree? Or met a Bar-ba-loots? If not, you might want to check out Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray today. But before you press play, crack open the book and meet Dr. Seuss’ original tree-loving Lorax, the star of this playful yet serious story about the importance of protecting our Earth. My favourite line from the book? “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

Olympic Fun

Hi everyone,

Have you been watching the Olympics this summer? Do you have a favourite sport? I know I’ll be watching the diving! Celebrate the Games with a few simple family crafts:

Gold Medal: Cut a circle out of gold paper or card stock and punch a hole in the top. Thread a long ribbon through the hole and tie the ends together.

Olympic Torch: Tape or glue pieces of red, orange and yellow tissue paper to a paper towel roll. Hold it high as you run with your torch!

Canadian Flag: Show your support for Canada’s athletes. Use face paint to draw a Canadian flag or the Olympic rings on your cheek.

Have fun watching the Games. Go Canada!
