Oscar Nominations

The Oscars are coming up in a few weeks. This year there are 5 movies nominated for Best Animated Feature. They are:

Big Hero 6
The Boxtrolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Song of the Sea
The Tale of Princess Kayuga

I know what you’re all thinking. Where is The Lego Movie?! While it wasn’t nominated for Best Animated Feature, it’s song ‘Everything is Awesome’ is nominated for Best Original Song.

Movie Review: Night at the Museum: Secrets of the Tomb

Hi readers,

The final movie in the Night at the Museum trilogy, Night at the Museum: Secrets of the Tomb, takes Larry the security guard across the ocean to London. Larry and the crew from the Natural History Museum must go on a quest to save the magic before it’s gone forever.

This movie was super-funny and had a lot of action. All the characters we loved from the first two movies, like Teddy Roosevelt and Dexter the Capuchin monkey are back! There are also some new characters, like Sir Lancelot and Tilly, the night guard at the London’s British Museum.

If you liked the first two Night at the Museum movies, then you will love this one, too.

Review: Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion

I was at the TV show premiere, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of the Rebellion. It was really cool how I got to see the first show in the series. I liked how most of the characters are in it. I also liked how it is animated.

My favourite character is Zeb. I liked him because he’s pretty funny and he always wants to get rid of Ezra. Ezra is an orphan who joins the rebellion team. My favorite part was when he rescued the baby Wookie. I wished the show would have had all of the Jedis in it, like Luke Skywalker.

Thanks for your review, Liam. This show sounds like a big adventure!

Movie News: Big Hero 6

Disney’s new movie, Big Hero 6, is blasting into theatres today! I was lucky enough to catch a sneak peek earlier this week. And so were some OWL readers who entered our contest!

Big Hero 6 is about a kid genius named Hiro and a robot named Baymax who uncover a mystery involving a masked supervillain in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo. Check out the trailer:

This movie is packed with action, laughs, and some seriously cool science-inspired superheroes. In fact, I learned that the robot Baymax and some of the other technology in the film is based on real robotic research!

It’s also a really sweet movie that will make you smile. There are some sad moments, and a few scary ones as well, but overall, it’s a super fun and funny movie!

Movie News: The Book of Life

I just saw a great movie called The Book of Life. Manolo loves Maria, but so does Joaquin. When the two men compete for Maria’s attention, there’s more at stake than just her heart. La Muerte, the ruler of the World of the Remembered placed a bet with Xibalba, the ruler of the World of the Forgotten. The winner of the bet gets to live in the World of the Remembered where the colours are brighter, the people are loved and fun never ends. The loser is banished to the World of the Forgotten, which is the worst place to be.

This movie is a lot of fun. It has great animation that brings all the worlds to life and catchy music that you may even recognize.

The Book of Life is in theatres this weekend.
