Winter’s over, spring is here, and summer’s definitely on our minds here at OWL.
We want to know: what did YOU do last summer?
Send an email to owlblog@owlkids.com telling us about your favourite summer memories from 2015. Include some pictures and they just might appear in a future issue of OWL.
Can’t wait to hear what adventures you got up to last year. And can’t wait to get up to more summer adventures soon!
Meet OWL reader Lucy, 10, who spent March Break in Arizona—with her magazine, of course!
Here’s what she told us about her trip:
“On my March Break I went to Arizona. There were a lot of really big cacti there called saguaros (sah-wah-row). I went to the Grand Canyon and it was really deep, about a mile deep. There was a lot of really big, nice turquoise jewelry. I also went to a Desert Museum and I saw a rattlesnake and a roadrunner. There were also these animals that look like giant pigs. They are called javalinas (have-leena). They had really big teeth.”
Thanks for sharing, Lucy!
Readers, what did you do on your March Break? Tell us in the comments or email us at owlblog@owlkids.com.
Today is Giving Tuesday! What’s it all about? It’s a day of global giving. People are encouraged to give back by making a donation to a charity or volunteering in their community.
Free the Children is joining the movement again this year. They’re challenging people to give a Gift of Impact that will help transform lives in Free the Children’s overseas communities by giving school supplies, clean water, health care, and more. Their goal? To raise $50,000 and help bring education to 1000 children.
It’s finally here! Hotel Transylvania 2 is in theatres starting today. In this movie, Dracula’s grandson, Dennis, is a half-human, half-vampire. Drac is worried the vampire part of Dennis isn’t showing. So, when Dennis’ parents, Mavis and Johnny are away, Drac asks his friends to help him put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. Will Drac and his pack succeed? You’ll have to catch the movie to find out!
Here’s a look at the trailer:
Just for fun, I asked a few Owlkids staffers what kind of monster training they would want from Dracula and his friends. Here’s what some of them said:
Jackie, Chirp Editor: “I would love to learn how to grow snakes in my hair!”
Faith, Creative Director: “I’d like to learn how to become transparent and invisible, like a ghost can be. And float through the air and through walls.”
Katie, Administrative Assistant: “I’d want to learn a really spooky evil laugh.”
Jessica, Assistant Editor at Owlkids Books: “I’d want to know how to mess my fur up perfectly and roar really loud.”
Me: “I’d like to learn how to give the best ‘BOO’ ever!”
