Movie News: The Angry Birds Movie

Remember Angry Birds, the smartphone app the took over the world a couple years ago? Now it’s coming to take over the big screen, too: The Angry Birds Movie hits theatres this Friday.

You’ll recognize all your favourite birds from the app, including our hero, Red, and his two best friends, the fast-flying Chuck and the exploding Bomb. And let’s not forget the bad guys: evil green piggies come to steal all the eggs. Can the birds protect their island from these ill-intentioned invaders?

It must have taken a ton of creativity to turn one little app into a whole movie, and I’m pretty curious to see how  it turns out.

Movie Review: Captain America: Civil War

Hey readers,

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the final movie in the Captain America trilogy. I got to see it a few days early (lucky me!), and let me tell you: it totally earned all that hype. Captain America: Civil War is awesome.

The plot for this movie is simple: Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, wants to protect his old friend, Bucky Barnes, from the governments that want to capture him. But it’s not just the governments that are after Bucky… it’s the other Avengers, too. So Cap is forced to face off against his former besties—and what a face-off it is! Want to know who’d win an all-out brawl between Captain America and Iron Man? This is your film!

This movie is basically fight scene after fight scene, but it’s not just the Avengers fighting the Bad Guy of the Month. It’s them fighting their friends, which is a whole lot more interesting. Check out the trailer below to see what I mean:

Movie Review: The Jungle Book

Disney’s on a live-action remake roll! I got to see their latest film, The Jungle Book, in theatres a few days ago. And now you can, too!

Mowgli, a “man-cub” raised by wolves, has always been safe and happy with his pack. But that all changes when Shere Khan, the most feared tiger in the jungle, becomes obsessed with one thing: getting rid of him. Now Mowgli must leave his pack behind and try to reach the safety of the man village.

And what an adventure he has on the way! The colours pop right out at you, the action scenes are nail-biting, and the animals look so real you can almost feel them rushing past. This is a flick that’s funny, heartwarming, and lots of fun to watch. But a word of warning: There are some frightening scenes that may scare younger viewers, so you may want to sit this one out and stick with Disney’s original animated version!

TIFF Kids Movie Review: Little Door Gods

The TIFF Kids International Film Festival is happening right now in Toronto until April 24. I decided to check out a movie from China called Little Door Gods, and I’m glad I did!

In this movie, gods and spirits are losing their jobs because people don’t believe in them anymore. So one god comes up with a risky plan: unleash a terrifying monster into the human world. Then humans will turn to the spirit world for protection, and they’ll be back in business! What could possibly go wrong?

The film was tons of fun, with bright colours and amazing animation. You’ll probably like it if you’re a big fan of Chinese myths and legends, or if you just like fantasy adventure stories.
