Video Game Review: Pikmin 3

Have you heard of Pikmin? About the size of a cherry tomato, these cute little creatures star in a series of Nintendo video games. Their newest game, Pikmin 3, was released at the end of the summer.

We asked gamer and OWL reader, Anna, to review the game for us.

“Pikman 3 was cool! I liked how you got to experience three different playable
characters named Captain Charlie, Alph, and Brittany. They are each friends
and become stranded on a planet they call PNF-404, which is the planet we
call Earth, after their rocket crashes. I also liked how they added Winged Pikman
and Rock Pikman. Winged Pikman are my favorite Pikman because they are so
cute! What I didn’t like about the game was that it was a progressive game
like the first two in the Pikman series, which means you can only save when you
complete a day in the game which can be frustrating. You don’t know how
long a day in the game will last, so play Pikman 3 only if you have a lot of time.
Other kids should totally play it because it’s filled with awesome areas and cool
enemies. This game is awesome!” 7.5/10

Video Game Trailer: Scribblenauts Unmasked

One of my favourite video games is Scribblenauts. So I was super excited to hear that Maxwell is back! Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure hits stores at the end of September. And it looks really fun and cool.

Video Game Review: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team

Hey Nintendo fans, Mario and Luigi have teamed up again for another awesome adventure! In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the brothers are on a mysterious island where Mario must go between the real world and Luigi’s dreams to rescue Princess Peach.

Our friend Liam got a chance to play this brand-new game. Here’s what he had to say about it:

“Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is really cool. The coolest part of the game is when you step on magic pillows on Pi’illo Island. You enter into Luigi’s dreamworld and battle Antasma. Luigi helps you while he is sleeping. His dream character gets into you, and when you battle, a bunch of little Luigis come out and jump on the opponent. I really loved all the new characters, the shape-changing, and different levels. It was really fun going from 2D to 3D.” 8.5/10

Video Game Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D

Earlier this summer, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong made a comeback in the new game, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for the Nintendo 3DS.

We asked OWL reader Selena, 13, to play and review it for us. Here’s what she thought:

“This game is a lot better than the first Donkey Kong Country because they have a new beginner-friendly mode with more lives and power-ups which make it easier to play. If you want a challenge, they still have the harder version with a few new levels. But they don’t give you a tutorial at the beginning so it made it a lot harder to figure it out. I think that other kids would like to play this one if they enjoy platform games. Plus, it is a lot more fun for both beginners and gamers with two different modes.” 8/10

Marvel Superhero News

The newest superhero movie to hit the big screen, The Wolverine, is in theatres today. Wolverine’s a pretty scary guy, if you ask me. But not the LEGO version of him!

Marvel and LEGO have teamed up for another awesome video game that will be coming out this fall. It’s called LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Here’s the trailer (and LEGO Wolverine):
