Chef Denia’s Bannock Recipe

In the January/February issue of Chirp magazine, we showed you how to make berry jam! Dene Chef Denia Baltzer helped us write this recipe and since she loves eating berry jam on fresh Bannock, she wanted to share that recipe with you too! We hope you like it!
Chef Denia’s Bannock Recipe
You’ll need:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3 tbsp. lard, melted (or melted butter)
- 3/4 cups warm water
- bowl
- wooden spoon
- round cookie cutter or drinking glass.
- baking sheet covered in parchment
How to make it:
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees.
- Put the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Stir together and make a well in the centre.
- Pour the lard or butter and warm water into the well.
- Use a wooden spoon to mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough with your hands about 8-10 times then press it out on a flat surface until it is about 2 cm thick.
- Use a cookie cutter or upside-down glass to cut the dough into circles.
- Place the circles onto the lined baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes. Yum!
