It’s Black Histories and Black Futures Month!
Hey readers,
February is also known as Black Histories and Black Futures Month. It’s an important time for us to learn about and honour the breakthroughs and contributions that Black people have made, and continue to make, throughout history. Each year in Canada, this month has a different theme. For 2024, the theme is “Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build.”
One important way we can celebrate Black Histories and Black Futures Month is by reading and learning. Here are some great books you can read this February:
- Beautiful You, Beautiful Me by Tasha Spillett-Sumner and illustrated by Salini Perera
- Oscar Lives Next Door by Bonnie Farmer and Marie Lafrance
- Africville by Shauntay Grant and illustrated by Eva Campbell
- The Little Regent by Yewande Daniel-Ayoade and illustrated by Ken Daley
- We Are Here by Tami Charles and illustrated by Bryan Collier
For even more book titles, you can check out these lists from TPL Kids and CBC.
Happy reading, everyone!
