Designer Art of the Week #1
Hello all… and happy new year! Like a lot of you, I’m looking forward to the first Reader Art of the Week post of 2012, but I thought we’d kick the year off with a first for the blog: art from OWL’s designer, Caroline! Considering she’s the one who coordinates the art for each issue of OWL, she is ideally suited for this, don’t you think? In fact, I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this already!
But, anyway, on with the art! Caroline has submitted a photo for our enjoyment. Check it out:
Neat, huh? Caroline took this shot in La Boca — a neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina — on vacation just last month. I didn’t know a lot about La Boca or it’s crazily painted buildings, but luckily Caroline filled me in:
There is a harbour nearby. The residents who didn’t have a lot of money would go over to the ships and ask for their leftover paint. That’s why it became so multi-coloured!
Awesome! I love how the random colours work together so perfectly. And the background info makes it even more amazing.
Many thanks to Caroline for letting me publish her photo. If YOU would like to see YOUR art posted up on the blog, send it to me at owlblog@owlkids.com.
Happy 2012, everyone!
Craig, owlblog@owlkids.com
P.S. Check back tomorrow for the new schedule for the OWL Blog Book Club. I’ve chosen the next three books we’re all going to read, and I think you’re going to like them!

Cool! I’ve always wanted to visit South America 😀
Happy New Year!!!!
I love the colours on the building. It looks abstract and fun! Kind of makes me think about Disney or Alice in Wonderland; it feels whimsical!
Love that word: “whimsical”! Nice one, Tia.
its so colorful
I was Thinking Craig Maybe we should have a section in your blog like a Talk About Post!
Hi Ayden. Good idea. I’ve posted “Talk About It” questions from the magazine in the past. Would you like to be able to give advice on the current questions from the magazine here on the blog?
That’d be cool!
Awesome picture.
Cool, looks like a place in Scotland I’ve been to. Please tell me one of the next books is the hunger games, pretty, pretty please??!!
Ohh I love the Hunger Games!! But I’m not that excited for the movie; I was pretty disappointed by the cast 🙁
Wait, what about the unwanteds?
So sad: the Canada juniors were this close–, with an amazing comeback; from 5-1 to 6-5. But even though their shots were something like 50 to
27, we just couldn’t get the last one in. But i am so proud to be Canadian, to show Russia, and the rest of the world, that we never, ever give up.
hi everybody i love owl
Cool!
That’s awesome!
The photographer really captures the different colours. Very cool!I want to see more pictures from around the world!
Thanks for the comment, Pedro. I want to see those pictures, too. I hope everyone here sends me their favourite vacation picks… (hint, hint!).
I can send pictures of my trip last March to Mexico, do I just send it to the e-mail address in the latest issue?
Hi Etta! If you want to submit a photo for Reader Art of the Week, send it to owlblog@owlkids.com. Thanks!
Ok!
OK! I’ll ask my Dad if it’s Ok with him.
There should be a space. The blog, I think, where you can just talk, and there’s no particular subject, because people do that anyways, but it makes it kind random!
i went to bermuda last summer..everyhouse is painted a different color…when we flew in there was a huge cliff and the waves were crashing and it was a huge multicolored splash….
OMG! Hi Sunil where exactly is Bermuda…?
