First! OWL! Blog! Ever!
Hello and welcome to the first ever OWL editor blog. When we decided to launch this I had no idea what I was going to talk about. My life? Your lives? Our lives? So I came up with 10 reasons for writing the blog in the first place. Ready? Here we go!
10) It’s fun! Besides, being the OWL editor takes time — just not as much as you’d think.
9) I needed something to do while waiting for the March Madness basketball tournament to start. (Go Tar Heels!)
8) I like receiving and answering mail. Email me with a question and I’ll try to answer it in an upcoming blog. (Sample question: “Hey, Craig. Why are you writing a blog?”)
7) I needed a place to talk about funny stuff that happens around the office. For instance, every time we put an issue together, Susan (OWL’s amazing art director) tries to put my head on a female body on the Contents page. One time, she even succeeded. Next to my letter in the January/February 2007 issue, my picture sits atop the body of a female robot. It’s pretty hilarious. That is, for everyone but me!
6) I needed another place to talk about basketball.
5) I like reviewing things. We rarely have enough space to review everything in “What’s Hot and What’s Not.” My favourite underrated movie of 2007? Stardust. Check it out on DVD if you get the chance. It’s a must for fantasy fans.
4) I really, really like basketball.
3) I wanted you guys to have more stuff to check out on our website. While we’re here, what kind of stuff do you want to see on the OWL site? Drop me a line with your ideas.
2) I like gloating to the other editors of OWL. Ha, Jackie! Take that, Mandy! I got a blog and you don’t. (Just kidding. In fact, you’ll be seeing some other OWL staffers on here from time to time. It’s not just The Craig Show, you know.)
1) I needed an excuse to write more Top 10 lists. Next week, Top 10 pieces of farming equipment!

i think you should make a issue that’s about what goes into the making of a basic OWL
mag. You could also have a issue with a whole lot of DIY pages, and call the annual
“DIY SPECIAL” ! that would be really cool.:)

Yes, I think you should make a travel issue for OWL too. I’m going to Disney World in a few weeks and I’d love to explore the world with the Owl Magazine.
I’ve been reading this magazine for years. When I was eight I ordered Chickadee and now I’m fourteen. OWL has grown up with me and it’s the best ‘zine ever! My issues expire in June and I think I’m too old for it by then… 🙁

i love owl! it is sooo awesome! i think you should add more contests and i think you should have a “book of the month” and kids can add reviews to it by e-mailing or mailing!
This is so cool! I think it is awesome that the OWL readers can give a shout out right from their home! I think it would be cool if you could maybe have a reader of the month section in the OWL magazine, just to appreciate the readers.

Hey Craig! I am a huge reader, so I have a higher reading level than most kids my age. I’m only 10 and I just finished reading Chicken Noodle Soup for the Teenage soul! My point is that your magazine should be (by about 10 pages) longer so I spend more time reading and appreciating your magazine! Some suggestions for filling up those 10 or more pages are:
1.Fave toy of the month,like Webkinz or Shining Stars
2.Polls
3.MORE comics
4.Cool websites
5.Famous Person of the month
6.TV show of the month
7.OWL reader’s art
8.Make your own comic of Alex and Charlie or Sidesteppers
9.Crafts like “Make your own Treasure Box”
10.Word searches and Quizzes

I like the blog idea. I think its so cool that we can just write a comment here instead of having to mail one in!
I think you should have more crafts in your magazine, made with materials you can find around your house. You should also have an article on what its like to work for OWL. I think it would be cool.
I’m impressed with the new blog! When I found out about it I decided to check it out! For March Owl should make an issue about Global events, good and bad! Kids like me need to find out about stuff like this. I’m very interested about this and wish there was a way kids could help to solve this problem!
I’m back with another comment! I just wanted to say thanks Craig, for considering my
suggestions. Anyways, I have a few more ideas for upcoming issues. I think that in the next Summer Digest issue, you should have an Summer Olympic Special on the 2008
Summer Olympics, a little bit like the previous specials on the u-18 world cup and the
2006 winter Olympics. You could have cool interviews with 2 or 3 of Canada’s
competitors and have awesome stats and facts about them.
The next thing I wanted to say is about the Max Finder Mysteries. I know that there are
the new collected casebooks, but i still don’t know OWL stopped featuring them in the mag. Please would somebody tell me why.

Hey, I love your mag and think the comic issue is one of the best! i think it would be really cool if you had a section just for pets. In a previous issue I made the cat condo and my kitty loved it! (for about a week…) You should also make more comics in it, I really like the Sidesteppers and think it would be extra cool if you had two of them in each eddition. I think I spelled that wrong, but anyway…. Keep up the 110% work! 😀
Also, I think you should have an embarassing moments page where readers send in there most embarassing moments, but dont have to use their real name… And you could have a page where readers can write about their hobbies and cool stuff that they do, like working at an amusment park or something. That would be so ausome!:D
Hey Craig its awsome that you made a blog! Have you ever considered putting in somthing on basketball? We share a couple of things in common we both love basketball and the Tar Heels!

I love OWL magazine!!! Its really only thing I have to read at the moment so its awesome!!!
It would be really cool if you talked about a sport that is a little less popular than hockey or soccer or skiing…maybe gymnastics or something like that.
Also, it would be REALLY kool if you did an article about what preteens are gping through in there lives. Like changes, friendships stuff like that.
