Five Facts about the Clarkson Cup
Do you recognize this cup? If you don’t, I would like to introduce you to “The Stanley Cup” of Women’s Hockey: The Clarkson Cup.
Here are five facts about the cup that we bet you didn’t know!
1. The Clarkson Cup will reside at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto this year.
2. The Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson (former Governor General) wanted to give a departing gift to Canada when she left her position. So she commissioned the making of a hockey trophy that was to celebrate the sport of women’s hockey in Canada.
3. Adrienne Clarkson has a true love of the great white north so she asked an instructor and graduates from Nunavut Arctic College to make the trophy.
4. The Montreal Stars from Quebec were the winners of the Clarkson Cup in 2012.
5. The 2013 Clarkson Cup championship game is happening on March 23rd in Markham, Ontario.
