Go Oscar Go!
Hey all. How many of you read the âScience Up Closeâ story in OWL about South African track star Oscar Pistorius and his high-tech, blade-like feet? Everyone? I thought so! It was a totally fun story to work on, and Oscar himself
is a pretty amazing guy.
Last week at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, he won the 100m sprint. Usually Oscar breaks his own world records every time he races, but the track was wet and he had a slow start. So he had to âsettleâ for a narrow victory!

In other news, the Paralympics finished up this morning with another fantastic fireworks display. Thanks to athletes like wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc
(five gold medals!), Canada finished tenth overall with 19 gold, 10 silver, and
21 bronze medals.
As for Oscar, he finished with three golds in three events and has his sights set on a new goal: the London Olympics in 2012.
