Happy Civic Holiday!
Hi all. In the summer, every day feels like a holiday, so the Civic Holiday (the first Monday in August every year) often goes by without notice. But not anymore!
In celebration of the Civic Holiday, I give you this larger-than-life, totally unrelated YouTube video:
[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1OfTk9Bys8]
Pretty cool! As it said in the video, all those exhibitions are at this year’s World Expo in Shanghai, China.
Also, just in case you’re curious, the Civic Holiday isn’t known as the Civic Holiday all across Canada. Here’s an incomplete list of the different names it goes by:
- British Columbia Day (British Columbia)
- Heritage Day (Alberta)
- Saskatchewan Day (Saskatchewan)
- New Brunswick Day (New Brunswick)
- Natal Day (Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island)
- Colonel By Day, George Hamilton Day, Joseph Brant Day, Founders’ Day, McLaughlin Day, Mountie Day, Alexander Mackenzie Day, James Cockburn Day, Peter Robinson Day, Simcoe Day, John Galt Day* (Ontario)
Excellent! So, happy [insert your name for the Civic Holiday here], everyone! Let me know how you’re celebrating in the comments below, even if you didn’t know you were celebrating until just now.
