Happy Diwali!
Today marks the first day of Diwali, a festival that is celebrated in India and Canada.
It is also known as the festival of lights. Indian families come together to celebrate Diwali with feasts, fireworks, and flowers. And it lasts a whole week!
Diwali is known for beautiful designs and lights.
Here are a couple ideas for you try:
Flower Garland: It is customary to wear a necklace made of fresh flowers during Diwali. Try making one out of paper, by cutting out petals from construction paper, and stringing them on a piece of yarn.
Rangoli: Diwali celebrators draw a pattern using geometric shapes, like triangles and squares, using colourful chalk or rice, and place them right outside their front door. Try making your own by drawing a grid of 9 dots and connecting them to make different shapes. Colour it in and place it by your front door. Look for it on page 25 of the November issue.
Glass Candle Holder: Use a small glass jar, like a baby food jar as a candle holder for the festival of light. Decorate the outside with paint or beads and wires.
Happy Diwali everyone!
