Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It’s a day to remember Dr. King, who was the leader of the Civil Rights movement in the US in the 1950s and 1960s. This movement wanted all people, no matter their skin colour, religion, ability or nationality, to be treated as equals. We celebrate this day to remember Dr. King’s accomplishments. It’s also important to think about his legacy everyday to make sure we’re all living in a world where everyone is treated equally and feels included.
Dr. King was famous for his “I Have a Dream” speech where he talked about his hopes for an equal society. Watch a video of kids reciting the speech below.
What are your dreams? What inspires you? Today is a great day to think about your dreams. Draw a picture or write down ways you and your family can help make the world a better place. Hang the paper somewhere you can see it everyday so you’ll feel inspired!
