Meet a Lion
Hi readers,
We’re going on an African safari adventure in the September issue of Chirp. One of my favourite African animals is the lion. Here are some cool lion facts I learned while making this issue:
- Lions spend 20 hours a day resting
- Lions live in groups called “prides”
- A lion’s roar can be heard from 8km away
- Female lions do most of the hunting for the pride
- Lions can see in the dark six times better than humans
What is your favourite African animal?
Jackie,

I was a interpreter at a nature center in Ontario. Does the magazine Chirp for 3-6 year olds teach youngsters about regular every day nature that they would see in their back yards or at the park e.g. bugs (caterpillars-beetles) the names of birds they may see at a bird feeder and the animals that are integrated into country and city life e.g. squirrels, raccoons, and how to recognize a white tailed deer that might appear in their arrear? Is the reading taught in the style of phonics at not by see and memory? What would the story line be of one of the regular stories? Would they be nature inclined themes?
