Meet the Okapi!
Hi readers!
The okapi (say: oh-COP-ee) is the Animal of the Month in the January February 2015 issue of chickaDEE! This cool creature may look like a zebra, but it’s actually related to the giraffe!
Here are some other fun fact about the okapi.
- This animal is very shy and secretive.
- It uses it’s long dark tongue to strip leaves off of twigs.
- Scientists can only estimate how many okapis are in the wild because they are so good at hiding!
- An okapi mom hides her calf in a safe spot when it’s first born. She comes back to check on the calf and to feed it.

Remember to check out the January February issue of chickaDEE for even more information about the okapi!
Talk to you later!
