MOVIE NEWS: 17 Again
Stop me if you’ve heard this one: a man decides he doesn’t like his life as it is, so he wishes for a drastic change. Poof! He wakes up the next day and his wish has come true.
Sound familiar? It’s the storyline of the new movie 17 Again. (It’s also the story of It’s a Wonderful Life, Big, 13 Going on 30, and a bunch of other movies. But who’s counting?)
In the particular case of 17 Again, a man named Mike O’Donnell (played by Friends star Matthew Perry) becomes his 17-year-old self (Zac Efron) again in order to live out his high school dreams. But he quickly discovers that the story may not be all about him. It’s also about the people he loves.
I saw the movie at a preview screening this week. Here are my observations:
1) Zac Efron and Matthew Perry… don’t look a lot alike. What was the casting director thinking? They’re similar in height and hair colour, but that’s about it. See for yourself. Weird, huh?
2) There is only one choreographed dance sequence in this movie, which is either one too many or one too few depending on whether you like the High School Musical trilogy. Me, I thought it was a little out of place. (Zing!)
3) Speaking of High School Musical, is Zac Efron going to play basketball in every movie he stars in? He spends half of 17 Again dribbling, taking jump shots, teaching others to play basketball, etc. What’s even weirder? Basketball isn’t even one of his favourite sports! (Seriously, I looked it up. In case you’re curious, “skiing” and “rock climbing” both made the list.)
Overall, I think 17 Again is tailor-made for Zac fans. It’s fast-paced and energetic, and there are some funny moments. What more do you need?
Have a great weekend, OWL bloggers!

sounds funny. why is he always plying basketball??
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I am soooo seeing that no one can stop me ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I LOVE Zac Efron I am seeing that with my friend ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Ya I know Craig they look nothing alike. Strange
I think they have similar noses and similar lips, but that’s just me.
Correction for Craig: I saw a play of “It’s a Wonderful LIfe” so I know what I’m talking about; it’s not about a man who goes back. It’s about a man who thinks his life is horrible, and then his guardian angel removes him from the world and he finds out what the world would be like withour him, he finds out his life is actually wonderful.
Also, “13 Going on 30” isn’t about a woman going back, it’s about a girl who wants to be 30, and finds out what she’ll be like when she’s 30. She learns how happy she is at 13, even though she never thought that before.
Hey Katie! Great points. I was speaking more generally â about people wishing their lives were different, not exactly going back in age or time. Nice rundowns, though!
Just saw it!!! It’s awesome!!! I love the part where he like, owns his daughter’s boyfriend in the caffeteria (Wow, I just saw it and I can’t even remember his name…)
Anyways that was definetly the best scene.
wow! im sooo sad! my mom is going to see that with her friends tonight and I dont get to go!!! 🙁
I saw 13 going on 30, it was a good movie. I am seeing 17 again(ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) probably next week or something when the theatres are’nt full:)
does anyone think that 17 again is just a copy of 13 going on 30?Also sorta like Freaky Friday just that people switch bodies.
not so much i guess
hey Emily hasn’t been on for a while?
That sucks, Maddy, I feel really sorry for you.
I want to see “17 Again”. Zac’s kind of cute, but that’s not the only reason I want to see it, because it looks funny.
BOOOO! HAHAHA. I scared ya. I will come on more often, just been busy with friends, family, playing sports, all that fun stuff.Ummm…*thinks about things to tell internet people*…I joined baseball ! And…uh…I like cheese?
Hmmm, I still think I’m gonna see it. It looks funny and interesting.
LOL Emily! Ya Katie the First time I saw the commercial for 17 Again I only wanted to see it because of Zac. But come on I always thought he was cute! Even my mom thinks so too (it’s very strange).
i am shocked that it’s rated pg -13. I thought Zac efron was more child friendly.
bluk, Zack Efron. *makes puking noises* i don’t know why about every girl in North America between the ages of 10 and 13 are ‘in love’ with him. every single one of my sisters freinds is. its annoying. …… GO CHEESE!
I’m with you Sinead, Zac is not that cute! I mean, c’mon, he is probably WAAAYY older than than girls who like him, and he already has a girlfriend! BTW, I just got my May OWL mag today! SO HAPPY!!
Cool! I’m glad the May OWL issues are arriving. Hope you enjoy it, Sydney!
I don’t have crushes on any actors, but Zac Efron does have some good looks, I don’t roll on the floor over him.
I dunno, I think the director should cut Zac Effron (so not AHHHHHH.) ‘s hair if he wants him to look more like Matthew Perry.
Another famous person that makes me barf is Hannah Montana. I CAN NOT STAND HER ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Yeah, cheese is AWESOME! GO FETA! AND MOZZERELLA!!!
Hannah Montana? Bwwwwweeeeeeeccchhhh. Ooh,feta cheese is yummeh. I also like marble and cheddar. AND MOZZARELLA!

Jonas Brother + Hannah Montana = Yuck! Even any of those 2 by themselves.

The Jonas Brothers (espesilly the oldest one) make me sick.
Ya i hate the Jonas brothers they’re dumb. and i love any kind of cheese. who here likes blue cheese aka moldy cheese?
