MOVIE NEWS: Bandslam
Okay, hands up if you’ve ever wanted to start a band. I know we can’t actually see each other here, but I’m guessing mine isn’t the only hand in the air. Having fun and rocking out with your friends? Teaming up to form an unbreakable bond? Of course! Sign me up.
This in a nutshell is what Bandslam is all about. The movie centres around Will (Gaelan Connell), an awkward, music-loving teen who moves with his mom to a town in New Jersey. He’s worried about fitting in at his new school until he discovers everyone there is as crazy about music as he is.
Will soon finds himself making friends — including Sa5m (Vanessa Hudgens) and Charlotte (Aly Michalka) — and managing a band called I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On (huh?). But does Will’s new crew have the stuff to win Bandslam, an all-out, tri-state rock-off? You’ll have to see the movie to find out.
I caught Bandslam at a preview screening earlier this week. Here are a few observations:
1) Despite what the movie’s poster would have you believe, Vanessa Hudgens doesn’t play the movie’s main character. And she doesn’t smile all that much. In fact, her character Sa5m (“The 5 is silent”) is shy, solitary, and a little grumpy — the exact opposite of her character from High School Musical! A coincidence? I think not.
2) I feel bad about this, but I Can’t Go On, I’ll Go On was my least favourite band in the movie. I cheered for them to win Bandslam because I cared about the characters, but my heart wasn’t really in it — you know? I liked a band called The Burning Hotels, who it turns out are an actual band in real life. Fun, huh?
3) There’s a character called Basher in the movie! Just like from “Max Finder”! The Basher in Bandslam isn’t a bully, though. He’s a member of the band. Guess what instrument he plays. Go on. I’ll give you 50 guesses.
Overall, Bandslam rocks. It’s a little heavier and a lot more realistic than
High School Musical (ie. no one bursts into song except when appropriate),
but fans of the series will no doubt like this movie as well.

ok…… Basher has gotta play the drums, because he would BASH on the drums.
But mayB I jump to that conclusion cuz I am a drummer…
Um……OH I KNOW!!! THE PICCOLO!!! Just kidding, I really have no clue. Bandslam looks kinda like a so-so movie, I wouldn`t really rate it for tops, but thats just how I roll. I wasn`t a fan of high school musical, so I don`t think I`ll be seeing this movie anytime soon.

Basher: either drums, trombone, tuba, cello, double bass, or saxophone.

I saw Bandslam yeasterday! It was totally amazing! But the thing that shocked me the most was how the moive theater was like EMPTY! I was like OMG….

it seems everyone has played the piano at some point in their life 😛 including me, i have also played violin, guitar, ukelele, recorder, drums and trombone…anyone wants lips like angelina jolie, try the trombone, lol
