MOVIE NEWS: Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Yo, ho, ho, and a bottle of Movie News, right, blog readers? I got a chance to see the new movie, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, this week, and I’m here to share some thoughts about it.
Many of you will know Jack Sparrow (played by Johnny Depp) from the first three Pirates movies. He’s a witty-but-cutthroat captain who cares about three things: 1) himself, 2) his ship, and 3) treasure. In this latest installment, Jack sets off on a quest to find one of the greatest treasures of all time: the Fountain of Youth. But it won’t be easy.
In his way are Blackbeard the pirate and his daughter, Angelica — not to mention the Spanish and British navies. Will Jack find the Fountain of Youth, or will he get tripped up on the way? You’ll have to see this flick to find out!
Here are a few observations about this movie:
1) It’s simple[r]. I don’t know about you, but I found the last two movies in this series to be kind of overcomplicated and a little all over the place. But this one keeps the plot pretty straightforward — a good thing for a funny action movie. That said…
2) It’s still long. It’s the shortest film in the series, but it’s still more than two hours in run-time. It works best when Jack’s launching himself into danger, chasing things down or getting chased, but it tends to drag when he’s not.
3) It’s pretty scary. Past Pirates movies have featured skeleton sailors and gigantic sea monsters, so this isn’t much of a surprise. However, one scene in particular, featuring mermaids of all things, is particularly creepy. Who knew mermaids could be frightening? (Note: not me!)
Overall, I thought this movie was pretty good. I didn’t like it as much as the first Pirates movie (just Pirates of the Caribbean, for the uninitiated), but Johnny Depp is goofy and great as usual, and there’s a healthy dose of laughs and thrills. If you’re a fan of the series, you’ll no doubt like this installment as well.
What do you say, blog readers? Do you like the series? Plan to see this movie? Skip it? Let me know in the comments below!

Hey Kaitlyn. I’ll do the reverse mailbag roundup this week and then a normal mailbag next week. Thanks for asking!
What’s “the reverse mailbag roundup”?☀☁☂♥
Hey, Craig! I hope you don’t mind, but I want to say that I have my FIRST BLOG POST ON MY WEBSITE http://www.theloveofbooks.ca !!! Check it out!
Cool blog!
Thanks, Kaitlyn!!
Your Welcome!
I am now finally done Diary of a Wimpy Kid!!!! It is actully 268 days long, and it was one of best books ever!!!!! I love it! And did you know, Craig, the book is so long because it is actully all three books? Pretty cool.
I really didn’t want to see this movie, but a few of my friends made me see it, and I really liked it! I haven’t seen any of the other movies, so I’m going to try to find them on Netflix, or the video rental store. My favorite characters are Jack Sparrow (of course! He’s so funny, and always comes up with random witty comments!), and the Cabin Boy (the blonde kid who brings the pirates the swords, who brings the guy the hat at the end, and they show some little clips of him through the movie. He’s just plain awesome!)
Im going to see this tonight!!!!! Soooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!
Was it good?
it was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In that case, I’m seeing it!! 🙂
Sounds cool, really want to see it 🙂
I saw it.
