Movie Review: Men in Black 3
OWL writer, Ashley Van Eysinga, checked out Men in Black 3 this week. We’re anxious to hear what she thought.
The Men in Black are back… again, in Men in Black 3! The movie opens today and I was lucky enough to catch a screening of it (in 3-D, too!). I wanted to share with you what I thought of this super sequel.
If you haven’t been able to see the first two movies in the MIB series, fear not. All you need to know is the Men in Black are a secret organization whose mission is to keep track of aliens visiting Earth, some that are friendly, and some that are definitely not. Will Smith plays Agent J, the fun-loving, quick-witted partner to the sour-faced Agent K, played by Tommy Lee Jones.
In Men in Black 3, Agent J must travel back in time to 1969 and save Agent K’s life and the world from Boris the Animal, one of those not-so-friendly aliens. Of course, with any time-travel, there are problems. The main one for Agent J is trying to convince the younger Agent K, played by Josh Brolin, that he and the world are in danger.
Here are some of my thoughts on this movie:
1) It stands the test of time. The first Men in Black movie was released 15 years ago! Most of you weren’t even born when Will Smith first put on that black suit. But that doesn’t stop this movie from feeling fresh and exciting. The 3-D had a lot to do with that. The movie feels different when you have alien goo spraying right at you!
2) It’s funny. Will Smith sure knows how to have fun, even in the scariest of situations. The whole movie theatre was laughing at his silly slip-ups and mix-ups. It is especially funny when he has to go back in time to 1969, a very different place to be than 2012.
3) It’s a little gross. I will be the first to tell you that I am not a fan of bugs. Especially ones that have lots of pointy arms and legs. Ick. The villain of the movie, Boris the Animal, has a little bug-type alien living in his hand. It grossed me out, but if you like that kind of stuff, you will love the effects in this movie.
4) It has heart. Along with all the action and aliens, there is a great story of friendship. I will leave it at that because I don’t want to ruin it for you, but you may get a little teary-eyed.
All in all, I think this is a great movie if you like aliens, action, Will Smith, and of course, being a little grossed out!
But be warned that there is a bit of foul language in the movie, so if that is not your thing, you may want to skip it.
What about you? Are you going to see this movie?
Let us know!
I’ve never watched the first 2 movies but I may see it.
