Movie Review: Moana

Hey readers,
If you’re looking for a fun flick to check out, I would highly recommend Moana!
This movie is all about an adventurous girl named Moana (voiced by Auliʻi Cravalho), who is itching to get off of her island and set sail on the open sea. Unfortunately, her father, who is the chief of her island’s tribe, forbids Moana to venture out into the ocean because it’s too dangerous.
Moana starts to give up on her dream, when suddenly, the fruit and vegetable filled plants on the island begin to mysteriously die off. Then she realizes that it’s up to her to save her beloved island and the people who live on it. So, Moana sails away on the adventure of a lifetime in search of a way to help her people.
Here are a few of my thoughts about this movie:
- The music is catchy! You may find yourself swaying (or even singing) in your seat. “You’re Welcome” is a tune that’s sure to be in my head for weeks to come!
- You may find yourself with a case of the giggles. I was left in sitches a few times thanks to the second main character in this film, Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) who is a demigod and his own biggest fan, and Moana’s chicken sidekick, Heihei.
- There are some great lessons to learn throughout the movie. As Moana and her friend Maui learn along their adventure, anything is possible when you believe in yourself.
