Poetry Contest Runners-up
Hey! In the May issue of OWL, we challenged you to send us some acrostic poetry. The entries poured in and, after much deliberation, we picked three winners. But there were so many great poems we decided to recognize three runners-up as well.
Here they are (in alphabetical order by last name):
Sailing
Slipping through water
Air and land
I feel wind on my back
Little waves around me
Into the sky I fly
Nobody can catch me
Gleeful and happy I head back to shore
— E. Signy Brownell, 9Inuit
Inuit is our native culture
Nain is an Inuit community
Ulu is an Inuit woman’s knife
I love learning Inuktitut
That is the language of our people
— Amos Lidd, 11Meow
“May I
Eat that
Old fish?”
Whiskers pleads.
— Kate Martin, 13
Cool, huh? I love how great — yet how different — they all are. Interesting? Moving? Funny? Check, check, and check! Thanks so much to everyone who entered.
Talk to you soon.
