Poet’s Day
Hi everyone. And happy Poet’s Day! As it says in the August OWL Calendar, today is a great day for writing a poem. For inspiration, here’s a poem by blog reader Hayden. Check it out:
Morning
The Sun’s first rays cross the field.
Dazzling, bright, hopeful.
Everything awakes.
The voice of a young girl echoes through the cold morning air,
the sound of a kettle boiling.A snake curls up in its favourite sunning rock,
a rock that has been sat on by snakes for generations.
Little animals scurry about in their own small,
yet important lives.
The grass sparkles from the night’s cold touch.Birds sing. They sing away the fears of the night.
Singing, singing, singing.
Trees rustle. Whispering their everlasting lullabies.A moment of silence, and then Sun,
In full bloom across the water!
Another day has begun, with millions to come.
The Sun is above the years.
Nice! I like how Hayden builds the poem on strong, concrete images — cold air, a kettle, a sunning rock. It creates a word world into which the reader can climb. Great stuff.
That’s it for me, everyone! Many thanks to Hayden for sharing his poem with us. Have a great weekend.

Good. I remember when I got a poem on the blog a while back. I’m going to write a poem today…if I can think of something!
Craig, for the photo contest, could I take a picture of something on a car, or does it have to be in nature??
Wow, Hayden, that was super coolio! I like the part about the sunning rock and the snake… Very cool.
I don’t like snakes…. but the poem is good! âº
Who doesn’t like snakes? ; )
i like paragraph 5 ….. it sounds so happy and sweet…. in such a matuer fashion
As Sydney said does everything that we take pictures of have to be in nature… because I am having a little (A LOT) trouble finding W.
Thanks for the help!!
I like snakes.
hi craig……i have the same question as sydney……do we have to take pics of nature?????
I once saw a snake eat a frog and a mouse. I have not liked them since.
Hey guys! The rules say that you just have to be outside â not “in nature.” So, you could find letters walking around your neighborhood, hometown, or wherever. If you’re taking the shot outside, it’s all good!
Hey Hayden?

Hey all. I thought I answered this question a while back, but oh well: we haven’t picked winners for the Back Talk Contest yet. The deadline for entries is August 31 (Monday). I’ll let you know when we draw the winners.
I’m a good poet, but that poem was like five times better than what I could come up with! Great job, Hayden!
I have not read the Eragon series.
i’ts just we can’t wait for the contest results!
Hey Craig, when there is a contest like the photo contest, how do you choose the winner? Is it a random draw, do you look at all the entries, or do you grab afew of th entries and choose one of them?
YAH HOO !!! ok craig
What is the prize for the photo contest?
