RAotW #36
Hiya, bloggers! It’s been a week since our last edition of Reader Art of the Week. If I’m doing the math correctly (am I?), that means it’s time for a new edition of Reader Art of the Week! Three cheers fot that.
This week’s art comes to us courtesy of blog reader Penelope. Check out her illustration, created on a Bamboo digital drawing tablet:
Cool, huh? For a digital creation, this drawing has a lot of texture and a very “tactile” feel. It’s a sketch, but the use of different shades (particularly on the dress portion of the drawing) really help with this effect.
Also, on a related note, just this week I was talking “Alex and Charlie” illustrator Claude Bordeleau. He told me he uses a digital drawing tablet to create the entire comic. Looks like great minds think alike, huh, Penelope? (By the way: thanks for sending in your drawing!)
That’s it for me, all. As of 5:00 PM I’m off for the long weekend, but I’ll check back in tomorrow with my thoughts on the new movie, African Cats. Talk to you then!

Cool Drawing!! Craig, I am planning on sending one of my drawings! As you probably noticed, I’m new to the blog!!(just in case you’re wondering)
Hi Kaitlyn! Welcome to the blog! I’m looking forward to seeing your drawing. RAotW is one of my favourite features, and I really like seeing all the cool stuff you guys create. Whenever you’re ready, just send your drawing to owlblog@owlkids.com. Thanks!
That’s cool, Penelope. :))
PS. Craig – I really want to become an avid reader but I don’t know how.I try to find books that I enjoy but I can never really get into a book, I just kind of drift off, daydreaming. Also, my mom’s always bugging me about how I should read more and it makes me want to be a better reader. Plus I’m not great at writing. As editor of OWL, do you have any advice?
PPS. Question for the mailbag: Are YOU an avid reader?
I have advice if you want! Okay:
Pick books you like. That way it’ll be easyer to read. I love to read and write so you should just try to get good books. See, if I rent a book and it’s boring, I’ll take it back. Simple. And if you bye, you can wait till your older or give it as a gift or return it. Hope that helps, Abbie.I.Graham, age 13!!
Hi Abbie! I think Hannah has some good advice for you. Make a list of your interests and look for books on those subjects at your local or school library. You can even chat up your librarian, who will have loads of recommendations for you. Try out fiction and non-fiction alike, and see which ones you gravitate towards.
I got into reading via comics and graphic novels, and I know a lot of kids still do that today. In fact, I still love reading comics in my spare time! (Fun fact: that’s one of the main reasons OWL features at least six pages of comics in each issue. They’re a good fit for all reading levels and interests.)
Thanks so much for the advice, guys!! 🙂 that’s really helpful! I’m going to make it one of my goals to try to read more!
Thanks for your help Hannah, 10 & Craig.
PS. I didn`t realize that you dont have to put your whole name, so I’m changing my profile name (sorry about that)!!
Any time, Abbie G. :)!! Totally any time everyone!!!
Cool…
Cool! I’d really like to do something like that!
Nice! Craig I just sent you my RAotW too.
Cool, Tia! I’m out of the office ’til Tuesday, but I’ll look at it first thing!
I just sent you my RAotW, three(You said too(two), I said three)!! On the first one I forgot to include the drawing so in another email, I sent you my art. It’s funny!
Wow that sounds like an intresting movie is it any good ?.Have u seen it yet.me and my mom have been dying to see it
Do you mean African Cats, Taylor? If so, yes, I have seen it. It is pretty good. If you really like lions and cheetahs, you’ll probably be more than entertained. Also, as I said in my review, if you’re looking for something to do with your mom on Mother’s Day, seeing this movie is a good option. It’s all about mothers and their cubs!
