Olympic Fever – Carol Huynh
And the games continue! Today we’re profiling Carol Huynh who made Canada proud when she earned a bronze medal in women’s wrestling at the Olympics on Wednesday. Way to go, Carol!
Carol is a freestyle wrestler who won Canada’s first gold medal in women’s wrestling at the 2008 Olympics, and she also won gold at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico.

Hometown: Hazelton, British Columbia
Greatest sports moment: “Winning gold at the Olympic Games in 2008. In my gold medal match, I was up against a long-time nemesis from Japan. We had competed eight or nine times already, and I had always lost, so it made it that much sweeter to win!”
Heroes: “Pioneer women wrestlers and coaches who paved the way for our sport to be as successful as it is today, such as six-time world champion Christine Nordhagen and the coach of the Canadian women’s national team, Leigh Vierling.”
Favourite book as a kid: “I loved reading as a kid and it remains one of my favourite things to do. I remember reading the Little House on the Prairie series, The Chronicles of Narnia, Goosebumps, and whatever other books I could get my hands on.”
Favourite movies: The Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings series, Star Wars, Sherlock Holmes
