Did you know Kwanzaa, the celebration of African community and culture, turns 50 this year? It was started in 1966! Kwanzaa kicks off today and goes until January 1.
Meet OWL reader Lucy, 10, who spent March Break in Arizona—with her magazine, of course!
Here’s what she told us about her trip:
“On my March Break I went to Arizona. There were a lot of really big cacti there called saguaros (sah-wah-row). I went to the Grand Canyon and it was really deep, about a mile deep. There was a lot of really big, nice turquoise jewelry. I also went to a Desert Museum and I saw a rattlesnake and a roadrunner. There were also these animals that look like giant pigs. They are called javalinas (have-leena). They had really big teeth.”
Thanks for sharing, Lucy!
