Today is Shark Awareness Day!
Hey readers,
I know sharks may seem kind of scary, but these toothy fish are actually really cool! And they’re really important to our oceans. Unfortunately, a lot of sharks are at risk of extinction, so Shark Awareness Day is an awesome time to learn just how super sharks really are! Here are some fun facts to get you started:
- Sharks have no bones – their entire skeleton is made up of cartilage (the same stuff that makes up our ears and the tip of our nose)!
- Sharks lose and replace their teeth throughout their lifetime. Some sharks will go through up to 35,000 teeth!
- Sharks have been around for over 400 million years, which makes them older than dinosaurs!
- Sharks protect reefs from other predators to make sure all the plants and fish stay safe and healthy
