Snow Dino
I wanted to share one of my favourite things about the Jan/Feb issue of OWL. It was created by illustrator Kathy Boake and it’s a snow dino!
It may just be the best polar dino I’ve ever seen. What do you think?

Cool image, huh? It comes to us from one of my favourite OWL regulars, Kathy Boake, who illustrates the “Talk About It” section each issue. It just gives me a super-warm and toasty feeling as we dive into the holiday season.
Speaking of which, as of right now, I am officially off work for the holidays! But don’t worry — I’ll be checking in with a post or three next week. One of them will be a reverse mailbag, by request.
As for today, I leave you with a great online game I just discovered. It’s called Snowman Stacker, and the goal is to toss snowballs in the air so they make a snowman… without falling over. It takes a couple of tries to get the hang of it, but after that it’s a lot of fun. My record is seven snowballs. Can you beat me? Let me know in the comments below!
Happy holidays, bloggers.

You know that saying “The name says it all”? Well, in this case the blog name says it all! This is just a short post to wish you a safe and extremely happy Halloween.
Also, just so you know, the OWL office is in holiday spirit right now:
• associate publisher Angela is dressed up as a panda;
• creative director Barb is a 1960s hipster;
• production coordinator Maggie is a punk;
• chickaDEE editor Mandy is a pirate; and
• I’m the marshal of an Old West town called Tombstone!
Nice! Have fun tonight, and talk to you tomorrow.

P.S. The image at the top of this post was created by artist and regular OWL contributor, Kathy Boake. You may recognize her work from “Talk About It” or from this post. (Or this one.) Thanks, Kathy!
Hi all. I was out of the office early for the long weekend, and I didn’t get a chance to post about Canada Day (July 1) or Independence Day (July 4). So I thought
I’d kick off this week by posting a couple things to celebrate both!
First, feast your eyes on some cool Canada Day art by OWL artist Kathy Boake:
Wicked! Doesn’t that just make you want to belt out a few bars of “O Canada”? Many thanks to Kathy for sending in the drawing.
Now, to celebrate the capital-“I” Independence of our neighbours to the south, check out this video of United States senator Al Franken drawing the map of his home country from memory:

Cool, huh? That takes some practice!
What did you guys do for the holidays? Fireworks? Festivals? Vacations? Let
me know in the comments below.

Hi all. I received an email today from someone curious about something in OWL. I figured maybe some of you were curious about it, too, so I’m here to shed light on the mystery!
Check it out:
Mystery: In “Talk About It” illustrations, what is that little logo with the heart in it? (Ed’s note: for an example, see the illustration above, taken from the “Divorcing Parents” question in May OWL.)
Solution: It’s artist Kathy Boake’s signature! The “I” and the heart make a stylized “KB,” and the “W” stands for her married name: Wüthrich.
Cool, huh? Artists have been signing their work forever — the signatures are
just rarely so much fun!
Does anyone else have any OWL mysteries? If so, drop me a line and I’ll do my best to answer them all in the next OWL mailbag.
