How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World hit theatres this weekend! The film follows young Viking Hiccup and his best friend and dragon partner, Toothless, on another adventure.
Their home on the island of Berk is no longer safe, thanks to ruthless dragon hunters who are after Toothless and his fellow dragons. Hiccup and Toothless venture to find The Hidden World, the place where dragons come from—and can hopefully return to safely.
With its beautiful animation and moving plot, this Dreamworks’s movie is definitely worth the watch.

Looking for something to do tonight? You may want to check out the new 3-D animated movie, Rio!
This movie follows Blu, a lovable Spix’s Macaw who’s living a cozy life with his owner and best pal, Linda, in a small Minnesota town. Things quickly get shaken up when a Brazilian bird expert named Tulio tells Linda that Blu is the last male of his kind. In order to save the species, Tulio wants Blu to meet the only other female Spix’s Macaw in the world, Jewel. There’s only one problem: Jewel lives all the way in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Although Blue and Linda aren’t big on adventure, they decide travelling to Rio is the right thing to do.
After arriving in Rio, Blu and Jewel meet. But their hilarious introduction is cut short when they’re kidnapped by animal poachers! The adventure continues as the lovebirds try to escape the thieves and their crazy cockatoo, Nigel.
Here are a few notes I have after seeing the movie.
1) This movie is all about trying new things. Even though Blu is scared to face his fears about being away from home, he finds the courage to do it! When he does, he meets many new friends and learns that trying new things is great.
2) You will dance in your seat! will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas and Jamie Foxx are just a few of the singers who lend their voices to this movie. The traditional Brazilian music featured in this flick will also make you want to Samba the day away. (Samba is a traditional Brazilian dance!)
3) There are a ton of cute animals! From pudgy baby birds to fuzzy monkeys, the movie is full of adorable critters.
4) You won’t be able to take your eyes off the beautiful scenery. From the busy city streets to colourful jungles, this film is sure to make you feel like you’ve been transported into another world!
5) There are some sad parts in the movie. Blu and Jewel run into danger a few times.
If you do see this movie, I hope you like it as much as I did! And don’t forget to leave a comment below with your thoughts.
Heading to the theatre with your family? HOPjust might be one to watch!
This animated/live-action movie follows two characters: Young E.B., a rabbit destined to be the next Easter Bunny, and a human slacker named Fred. E.B. is unsure about taking the high-pressure Easter Bunny job. He thinks me might even like to be a drummer instead of the Easter Bunny. And Fred is unsure about taking any job, much to the disappointment of his family. When the two characters meet, hilarity ensues. After a few comedic missteps, Fred and E.B. form a strong friendship and learn from each other. But more importantly, each character learns just what they are capable of when they set out to pursue their dreams.
HOPfeatures some of the cutest animated bunnies you will ever see! And it enforces a great message about pursuing your dreams/accepting people for who they truly are. The comedic pacing is good, providing enough slapstick, singing and dancing to keep both children and parents entertained. The film also provides opportunities to talk about its messages (good and bad), as well as to discuss how Easter is portrayed in the film vs. how you may or may not celebrate it in your own house.
Stuff to watch out for:
HOP is rated PG for some crude humour and comedic violence. Some of the language, concepts and jokes are aimed mainly at adult viewers, and will likely go over most young viewer’s heads. However, be aware that some of the evil characters spout insults like “jerk” and “idiot” and there are a couple of scary scenes in which E.B. is in danger. And of course, there are lots of references to candy.
