Movie News: Dolphin Tale 2

Winter the dolphin is back on the big screen. In Dolphin Tale 2, Winter faces a new challenge as she is left alone in her tank. The Clearwater Marine Hospital team must find her a new partner fast.

This movie is based on the true story of Winter, a dolphin who lost her tale and learns to swim with a prosthetic fin. With a trouble-making pelican and a marine hospital full of creatures, her caretaker, Sawyer and his friends have their hands full. If you’ve seen the first Dolphin Tale or just love marine life, then you will love this sequel.

While having a dolphin as a pet isn’t possible, watching them swim and play on screen is the next best thing to watching it in person!

Movie News: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Any Ninja Turtles fans out there? I’m one! So I was pumped to get a sneak peek of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie earlier this week.

The movie is set in New York City, which is slowly being taken over by Shredder and his evil Foot Clan. There doesn’t seem to be much hope until the the four Turtles—Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo—rise from the sewers and team up with news reporter April O’Neil to try to save the city. Check out the trailer!

There are some scary scenes in this movie, especially when the Foot Clan is on the screen. Those guys are creepy! But there are also lots of funny parts, too, like when Michelangelo can’t resist a 99-cheese pizza (who could, really?) or breaks into a rap in an elevator. Michelangelo is totally my favourite Turtle!

Movie News: Island of Lemurs: Madagascar

A ring-tailed Lemur in its home in Madagascar.

Did you know that lemurs are the oldest living primate on Earth? I just found out this amazing fact when I visited the Ontario Science Centre earlier this week to watch the new documentary, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar.

I also got to meet a ring-tailed lemur named Stewie!

Island of Lemurs: Madagascar taught me a ton about this extraordinary creature and the island it calls home. Sadly, lemurs are highly endangered, but a team of scientists led by Dr. Patricia Wright are working to help save them. This movie follows their journey.

Island of Lemurs: Madagascar opens at the Ontario Science Centre’s OMNIMAX Theatre today. If you get a chance to see it, come back and tell us what you think!

Movie News: Maleficent

My fave fairy tale is being retold. If you have ever seen the movie or read the story, you would know all about Princess Aurora, a.k.a. Sleeping Beauty, and the evil Maleficent. But if you think that’s the whole story, think again! In the new movie, Maleficent, the story of why the evil fairy cast her terrible spell is told. Check out the trailer below.

With Angelina Jolie playing the title character, you see that sometimes there can be good and bad in everyone. And even the most evil person can have a change of heart.

This movie may be about a sleeping curse, but with amazing make-up and even cooler special effects, watchers will be cheering along with the villain and all her magical friends.

Movie News: Million Dollar Arm

I don’t know about you, but I love a good baseball movie!

Million Dollar Arm, which opens today, is based on the true story of India’s first two professional baseball players. Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel won a 2008 reality show (also called “Million Dollar Arm”) in their home country of India to come to the United States and train to become Major League Baseball pitchers. The movie follows the two boys, and the sports agent who discovered them (JB Bernstein played by Jon Hamm), on their inspiring journey.

I smiled a lot while I was watching this movie. Million Dollar Arm is totally heartwarming. And it’s got lots of funny moments, too!
