The Winter Paralympic Games start in Pyeongchang, South Korea tomorrow! Ten-time gold medallist Brian McKeever, a cross-country skiier, will be leading a team of 55 Canadian athletes into Pyeongchang Stadium for the Opening Ceremonies. The games will run from March 9th to March 18th.
The official Paralympic mascot is Bandabi. He is an Asiatic black bear and he represents strong will and courage, just like all the athletes competing.
We can’t wait to see how all the athletes do. We’re cheering for you, Canada!
The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games are coming to a close as of September 9. Team Canada has had a stellar performance and a huge congratulations to the entire team, including Cindy Ouellet, who’s the focus of our last Super Athlete spotlight.
Name: Cindy Ouellet
Sport: Wheelchair Basketball
About Cindy: Nicknamed “The Hornet”, Cindy is one of the quickest and toughest athletes in the sport. She was introduced to basketball by a physiotherapist back in 2005 and two years later, she won a gold medal at the Canada Games. Her training is just as intense as her game with a mix of cardio, rowing, pilates, weightlifting, and hoop shooting practice.
Here’s Cindy in this video by the Canadian Paralympic Committee.
Cindy and her teammates will be playing against China today. We’ll be cheering them on!
