Cool School: Saving the Red Panda
In the October issue, we told you about a grade 2/3 class at Holy Name Catholic School that was raising money to save the red panda. Here is their full story!
Gr. 2/3 Helps Save Red Pandas!
One of our Gr. 2/3 students read a National Geographic article called: “Will the Red Panda Survive?” Then we formed a Red Panda group, where we gave up some of our recesses and quiet reading time to research all about the Red Panda. We talked to our class and decided to hold a raffle to raise $50 to Adopt a Red Panda from the Red Panda Network. We also decided to host a Red Panda Day at our school. Our Grade 2/3 class donated items for the Red Panda Raffle: soccer ball, board games, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Tassimo machine and Tassimo teas and coffees. We sold our tickets: $1.00 for 2 tickets and 5 tickets for $2.00. Next, we created Red Panda posters, announcements, drawings, slide shows and facts to create awareness about the Red Pandas.
On Red Panda Day, everyone wore red, black and white, and we picked the winners of the red panda raffle. We counted and we raised a total of $251.35. We could now adopt 5 Red Pandas! We decided to adopt a family of 3 and then we surveyed the entire school to choose the final 2 Red Pandas for adoption. The names of our Holy Name Red Pandas are: SITA, BHIM, NIYATI (family) and PINJU and TENZING. We are so happy and excited that we could make a difference for these adorable and one-of-a-kind species!
Thank you for sharing your story, Holy Name Catholic School! Keep up the amazing work!
