ExploraVision Program – Team Remebot
BIG news from the world’s largest K-12 science and technology competition, the ExploraVision Program!
Students from St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Gifted Program in Scarborough were selected from over 4,800 entries, across Canada and the US, for Honourable Mention in the Toshiba/National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) ExploraVision Program.
Three teams in total were awarded Honourable Mention for their inventions.
Congratulations to all of the students who participated! We interviewed the three teams and we’ll be sharing each of their three inventions every Friday starting today!

Invention: Remebot

Details: An earpiece which repeats certain words or sentences to help people with memory problems. Remebot, is ideal for people with amnesia, or the elderly. The design will feel natural and will be safely connected to the ear. If the patient is going to sleep, there will be a snooze button, so it will stop speaking for the set time to let the patient sleep in silence. After this set time, it will begin to say the keywords again. It will have a small control box, which will be used to record keywords that the person needs to remember. The box will decide, through probability, the most important keywords.
We asked team member, Stephanie, a few questions about Remebot.
OWL: How did you come up with that idea?
Stephanie: Our team wanted to make something to help people and make a difference. So our group thought of Remebot.
OWL: What was your reaction when you found out that your team got honourable mention?
Stephanie: We were surprised and excited! Our parents were really proud, too.
OWL: What advice do you have for others who are interested in science and technology inventions?
Stephanie: It’s important to think realistically. Invent something that would be used often and helps others.
Great job on the poster, Remebot team! A five-year battery is also a nice addition to your invention. No need to change batteries every month.
