Meet a FIRST Lego League Team
OWL recently had a chance to interview Asha, who is a member of FIRST Lego League (FLL) team 2766, also known as “is Lost.”Asha gave us the inside scoop of what it’s like to be a part of FLL and compete with her team, Team 2766.
OWL: What kinds of things do you learn in FLL?
Asha: FLL has three sections: the project, the robot, and core values. In core values, we learn about working well with our teammates and competitors alike. In the project section, we study a real world problem and create a practical solution. In the robot section we learn how to build and program robots of our own. These skills are fun to learn and can be applied in real life.
OWL: What is the best part of being on Team 2766 is Lost?
Asha: Creating our presentations. Our team’s presentations show everything we have done all season in five minutes. We incorporate live music, drama, dance and any other skills that team members have, and want to use.
OWL: What inspired your team name?
Asha: Our full team name is “Team 2766 is Lost.” Our project this year focused on teaching a person to navigate. We thought it would be funny if the announcer called out our team as being lost so that we could yell out “FOUND!” Then everybody would know where we were.
OWL: Do you always follow the same strategy at competitions?
Asha: Yes. As a team we believe that everyone should be involved in what we do. In the robot section, our 2 minute and 30 second run is performed in a relay by all team members. Everyone participates in the project presentation and we make sure that all the teams at the tournament are having a great time. We do this by helping them out, cheering, sharing our work, and dancing when there is a break in the action.
Thanks for answering our questions, Asha! Good luck in your competitions.
