Movie News: The Croods
Editor’s note: today’s movie review is brought to us by one of OWL’s contributing editors and the assistant editor of Chirp and chickaDEE, Melissa Owens.
Hey, readers!
Have you ever wanted to go back in time and visit the Croodaceous Period? What? You’ve never heard of it? Oh right, that’s because it doesn’t exist. Actually, it’s the setting of the new 3D animated movie, The Croods!
The story follows teenage cavegirl, Eep, and her family on their first ever road walking trip. Eep’s dad, Grug, would rather stay hidden from the dangers that lurk in their wild surroundings, but he’s forced to relocate his family after an earthquake destroys their cave. The rest of Grug’s family are also wary about leaving the only place they’ve ever called home, except for Eep. In fact, she couldn’t be more thrilled! The film follows this wacky clan as they discover the bright (and sometimes scary) world that they’ve been missing out on.
This movie is a touching, hilarious, and suspenseful rollercoaster ride that’s sure to keep you glued to the screen the entire time.
Here are some other things I noticed about the film:
1. The 3D effects are very realistic. I’ve seen 3D movies before, but this one seemed to really POP! I found myself wanting to reach up and grab whatever was in front of me a few times.
2. You’ll be overloaded with cute. The animals in this flick will keep you “aww-ing” for hours! I’m talking about rainbow-coloured cats and a squeaky-voiced sloth that likes to be worn as a belt (his name is Belt for that reason). Need I say more?
3. It’s got star power! Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, and Nicolas Cage are just a few of the actors who lend their voices to the characters in this flick.
The Croods in 3D stomps its way into theatres today. Here’s a sneak peek:
