Review: Shaun the Sheep: The Movie
Last Friday, I got the chance to see Shaun the Sheep: The Movie at the TIFF Kids International Festival and I want to tell you all about it!
Shaun the Sheep is about a flock of sheep and a guard dog that live on Mossy Bottom Farm. Day after day, they experience the same thing. Get up, go outside, get shaved, go to sleep. Shaun decides it is time for a day off and he comes up with a plan to make it happen. But when the farmer is accidentally sent off to the big city in a runaway trailer, the sheep have to figure out a way to get their family back together.
Here are a few things I loved about this movie:
* The stop-motion claymation was awesome! Animators have to move clay models a little at a time and photograph them. The photos are then recorded onto film to make the movie. I couldn’t believe how animators were able to capture such funny expressions in the clay models. It didn’t seem like I was watching clay models at all.
* This movie was so funny. There’s a scene when the sheep dress up as humans and go to a fancy French restaurant. All I can say is that I’m still laughing about it.
* There was no dialogue. These animals communicate with each other through their body language and actions—and a few funny chalk drawings from Shaun. Even though none of the characters talked aloud, the story was still super funny and I never missed what was happening.
Shaun the Sheep: The Movie will be out in theatres sometime this year in Canada. And if you’re in the Toronto area, don’t forget to check out the TIFF digiPlaySpace. Here I am spelling out “C” for chickaDEE at the Six-Forty by Four-Eighty exhibit.
