Are you a fan of pirates? Maybe you’re thinking of dressing up as one for Halloween, or you’ve read about them in books! Did you know there is an entire day dedicated to talking like a pirate? It’s true!

Talking like a pirate is easy. Here are a few pirate-sounding words that you can include in conversations with friends today. Check out each word’s meaning (beside each one) so you know what you’re saying!

A’hoy, mateys! = Hello, friends!

Shiver me timbers! = Wow!

Aye, aye! = I’ll get on that!

Arrr = Yes

Land lubber = Someone who does not go to sea

Yo-ho! = (Laughter)

Hearties = Friends

Savvy? = Ok?
