The Olympic Spirit
Hi readers,
All around my neighbourhood, there are window signs cheering our Canadian team on! They say things like: Go Canada Go! and Keep up the good work! One house even has a tally of how many medals we’re bringing home.
As of right now, we have one gold, four silver, and nine bronze medals.
But it’s not really about winning. The Olympics are about more than that.
The spirit and the excitement of these games is what brings everyone together.
On the weekend, I watched Justyn Warner from Markham, Ontario compete in the 100-metre semifinal race and I was jumping up and down, cheering him on.
I don’t know him at all, even though we live in the same city. Still, I couldn’t help but get excited when he walked on the field. I get excited each time a Canadian competes.
Here’s an interview with him after that race. Justyn finished fifth in the race and tied his best time of 10.09 seconds.
Did you know that 100 metres is the same as four pool lengths, and he ran this in just over 10 seconds? Wow! Absolutely amazing!
What’s been your favourite sport to watch? Do you have a favourite athlete?
