Updates! Updates! Updates!
Wow. Who knew the end of summer held such craziness? I always remember being slightly bored by the last few weeks of August, but these are exciting times. The Olympics are going strong and Canadian Idol is definitely heating up. Let’s get to some updates:
UPDATE #1: Canadian Idol
Since my Canadian Idol diary a week ago, a lot has happened. First Amberly got kicked off — not even blog reader and Idol prognosticator Madison saw that one coming. Then, last night, Toronto native Mookie got kicked off. (I don’t need to tell you that OWL’s associate publisher Angela is seriously bummed.) That leaves four competitors left: Drew, Earl, Mitch, and Theo. For the record, I’m still cheering for Earl.
In honour of Mookie, here’s my favourite of his performances from this season:

UPDATE #2: The Olympics
When we last checked in on the subject, Canada hadn’t won a single medal. Five days later, we’ve won 13 medals — that’s more than we won in Athens, Greece, in 2004. Did you notice that Karen Cockburn, the subject of OWL’s “Wow Shot” from June, won her third medal in as many Olympics for trampoline? Awesome. I felt a special connection to that one.
The most exciting Canadian medal for me, though, was the women’s 100-metre hurdles. Talk about a close race! Five competitors all finished within two hundredths of a second of each other, but Canadian Priscilla Lopes-Schliep managed to come out with the head of the pack and claim the bronze medal.

Yea, Earl!! Hey,Craig, what’s your favorite animal? Mine’s a tie between the axolotl and the albatross.
The Olympics are going great! Wow! My fave sport to watch is diving!
FINALLY!
Canada’s catching up!
Everybody – what’s your favourite sport to watch? Or play?
I have two to watch, swimming and kayaking. And kayaking’s my favourite as well to play. 🙂
I love to swim and dive. Once again, YEA, EARL!!!
Usian Bolt’s two world records in both the 100 and 200 metre running races were absoulutly amazing! Maybe you could post a youtube clip of him running in one of the races.
For Canadian Idol, I was surprised that Mookie got eliminated, but I think that now that he has gained so many fans, he will be able to just jusp right into making a new album. He said in an interview with the Vancouver Sun that he plans to make a indie rock album, and that he already has some songs ready that he wrote when he was 14. I’m still cheering for Earl, but I’m sad that Mookie had to leave.
P.S. Wasn’t that a true rockstar moment when Mookie smashed his guitar on the stage during his last performance? I loved it!
just jump* whoops!
By the look on his face, I don’t think Mooki meant to break that guitar. Uh-oh!
One of the best Olympic moments so far was when the Canadian missed qualyfiyin/getting a medal(I don’t remember which one he missed) is Shot Put by 1 centimetre!
My favourite of Mookie’s performances were when he sang “I Feel Good” and when he sang “Magic Carper Ride” (wearing the cool shades).
Carpet, not Carper.
I feel bad for Amberly and Mookie they did not deserve to go but the one I think had to go was Mitch. And the Olympics are going awesome too bad theyre almost over. i like usain bolt mens 200m race champion winning gold on his birthday.pretty lucky guy for that.let me introduce myself im cheyenne i get your magazines in the mail they are totally awesome.im 11 years old.i think i migh stick to your magazine for the last two years i can.thanks for making the magazines.i think it needs alot more games and alot more reading.maybe put it about2 or 3 inches thick maybe that would get more people reading your magazines but im sticking to your magazines they are awesome.thanks craig.
I’m not sure EXACTLY, but I think that in one of Usian Bolt’s races, the people who came in 2nd and 3rd went into another lane, so the 4th and 5th racers got silver and bronze.
But I’m not sure where I read that…
yeah, i read that two Isabella. my favorite sports to watch are diving, horse stuff, gymnastics and stuff like huddles and the pole vault and stuff.
your right about that Isabella! To bad they got disqualified. 🙁
I think ALL of Usain Bolts races were totally the best! He smashed ANOTHER record in mens relay finals.
I also thought Alexandre Depate, the diver, is awsome, and Karen Kolburne. (IS she the trampolinist who got silver???????)
Also Ian Miller. His 9th Olimpics and first Medal!
I also like waching gymnastics and swimming.
And hurdles. that lady who got bronze is great.
I hope van Koeverden wins the K-1 500.
Canadians got 6th in mens relay. That was good!
espesily seeing as they were up against the Jamacins. (ahem ahem)
I mean, the Bolt killed the 100 meter record and he was’nt even trying!
Seriously! watch it!
Canada has 18 medals! Go Team Canada!
I think that Usian Bolt’s races where one of the best moments and also the first gold medalist from Canada’s medal was a big moment!
I really can’t believe that a person can run that fast! The guy is amazing…
Another bit of news related to the olympics – some people were breaking their exercise machines trying to keep up with the professionals!
That’s funny Isabella.
I totally agree with Margaret and Sinead!
Did you see the closing ceremonies? They were cool!
just got back from florida and wow i missed alot
i really wanted mookie to win but oh well go earl!!!!
I wanted Mookie to win too. Too bad. Earl and Mitch did great on their first songs tonight! I was surprised and very impressed.
I liked the diving, syncronized swimming, gymnastics, trampoline and running plus equestrian! Great closing ceremony from China! Can’t wait till London 2012. 🙂
I cant believe the olympics is over
