Wacky World News
It’s official! A building has eclipsed Toronto’s CN Tower as the world’s tallest. Just yesterday, Dubai’s Burj Khalifa — which measures a whopping 828 m (2,717 ft.) — was opened to the public.
To put this in perspective, the Burj is twice as tall as an Olympic-sized track is long. In fact, if you laid the Burj on its side, the world-record holder in the 800 m event would need almost two minutes just to run the length of it.
Sound crazy? See for yourself:
Wow! Still, you might be thinking, “Sure, it looks tall in the photo. But how would it look in other cities?” One news program decided to use computer technology to get us an answer. Check out the YouTube video below:

Incredible! Also, it turns out the Burj isn’t just known for being the world’s tallest building. It’s claimed a bunch more world records as well. Here’s a few:
- Building with most floors: 160 (FYI: the building in which we make OWL has seven floors)
- World’s fastest elevators: 64 km/h (40 mph)
- World’s highest swimming pool: 76th floor
Phenomenal! Mind-blowing! Stupendous! It makes you wonder: will anything ever be built taller than that? If so, it would reach almost a full kilometre (3,280 ft.) into the sky. What do you guys think?
Talk to you later in the week.

wow that is so cool
The Tokyo and London one was really shocking.
I’m kind of sad that CN will be bumped off and replaced but Burji.
I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable in a swimming pool that high. I think it would feel like the water was going to just fall and pull down the floor.
I bet my stomach would not thank me for riding that zooming elevator.
That would be scary to go up in down in a elevator going that fast
wow think about being in a car going 40 mph it doesn’t feel very fast but in an elevator it would be pretty fast! Also a swimming pool that high, that’s just plain crazy! And 160 floors, you would have to take like 1000 steps to get to the top floor!
that is a really TALL building. I was especilly surprised when it was beside th Pyramid of Giza. Also it was surprising that it looked so normal in Dubai. WOW!
OMG, it’s HUGE!!!!!!!
Wow. that is one tall building – I can’t believe it beat the CN Tower……
WOW!!!! that is a super tall building!!!! I wound how big the elevator would be to go up that tower…… if the elevator was brooken and you had to take the stairs I would be super mad!!! What is the worlds largest house would be like?
That’s amazing. I wonder how long it took to build that.
Noooo! Not the CN tower! Oh well, yay for Dubai to have a record.
