Happy December, everyone! If you’e read this month’s issue of OWL, then you are probably all over the “Weird Zone” story about skyaking on page 9. It’s one of my favourite parts of the issue and I love the accompanying illustration Dave Whamond drew (remember him?).
For those who haven’t seen the issue, skyaking is a mixture of kayaking and skydiving. As the story says, skyakers jump out of a plane in a kayak and sail through the air until their parachutes open. After that, they come in for a water landing.
Don’t believe me? Check out the video evidence (also: really don’t try this at home):
Awesome! The skyaker’s name is Miles Daisher — the inventor of the sport. I’m not sure if my favourite part is when his kayak slides out of the airplane or when he skims the trees to hit the water (did I say “don’t try this at home”?). Of course, I also really like the punk rock soundtrack. I’m torn!
What’s your favourite part of the video? Better yet, what’s your favourite part of the December issue of OWL? Let me know in the comments below!
