World Oceans Day
Who’s up for a riddle? Everyone? Okay, here it is: when is a Monday not just a Monday? Answer: when it’s World Oceans Day!
In celebration, I give you the trailer for the IMAX movie Under the Sea (playing
at several theatres across North America):

Wow! As we all know, oceans are pretty to look at and fun to play in. But they also make up one of the Earth’s most vast and mysterious spaces.
Here a few facts I picked up on a cool site called Save the Sea:
- The oceans occupy nearly 71 percent of our planet’s surface.
- More than 97 percent of all our planet’s water is contained in the ocean.
- The deepest point in the ocean is 11 km (6.86 mi.) — that’s 1.5 km
(1 mi.) deeper than Mount Everest is tall! - The Monterey Bay Submarine Canyon is deeper and larger in volume than the Grand Canyon.
- The world’s oceans contain nearly 20 million tons of gold.
We know a lot about the oceans, but the truth is there’s still so much left for scientists to discover — the oceans make up 99 percent of the Earth’s living space, but less than 10 percent has been explored by humans. Amazing, huh?
Happy World Oceans Day, OWL readers!

Cool
WHOA COOL. I have seen something like that on a field trip. It was called Sea Monsters. Pretty sure it was called that.
I wanted to see “Sea Monsters” but I never got to. Hopefully, there’ll be another chance for me to see it.
another great imax movie is “talking to dolphins” or something like that (I watched it yesterday – this proves my memory) Well anyways they turned it into a dvd you should all watch this if you have a chance. It has inspired me to reaserch dolphins when i grow up.
i love it!
