What a cool contest. I think polar bears are beautiful. There is a nature walkway near my house, I am going over there with my camera to take some pictures.
My aunt went to Churchill a few years ago to see polar bears, and it sounds really cool! But isn’t flying all the way to Northern Manitoba and going in a giant bus thing to see polar bears kind of counterproductive considering the emissions that would be released for a trip like that? Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it would be a great experience, but maybe there’s another way to appreciate polar bears without harming their habitats in the process.

Thanks for your comment. You make a good point and I wanted to take a minute to address your concerns. One of the goals of our “green” photo contest is to connect kids to nature and wildlife. We hope the winner of the contest will share his/her knowledge and teach others about what they learn — we’ll also share this on the blog and in the magazine. Owlkids have partnered with some amazing organizations who have environmental practices in place to keep in mind the well-being of the communities and ecosystems impacted. I entered and it would be a dream come true to go to see the polar bears, seeing that they are an endangered species. Or to win that camera! i love photography and i would use that camera 24/7!
